On Tuesday evening the assessor from the Royal Horticultural Society visited the Old Library site to view our entry.
The RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood (IYN) campaign supports community groups in cleaning up and greening up their immediate local environment.
Whether that’s the street they live in, or a small patch of communal land needing a revamp.
She seemed impressed but we will have to wait a few months for the results.
Wednesday saw Prestatyn entered in The Wales in Bloom Competition.
All of our spaces were judged in our towns Wales In Bloom entry. We had even greater involvement as Steve was one of the people transporting the team across town.
Here is a quick video taken on Thursday 14th July 2016
It was Great showing off all of our community groups work.
Also on Wednesday it was confirmed by the Alzheimer’s Society that Prestatyn has met the foundation criteria for the process to become a dementia friendly community.
Even more good news
As if that was not enough we were contacted by the government team that run The Great British High Street Campaign. Who asked us to work with them promoting the 2016 initiative.
They have told us that “It would be great to promote the competition using Prestatyn as a prime example of the Great British High St”
Our team helped lead the Totally Locally Prestatyn campaign Three years ago. It is nearly Two years ago that we opened Prestatyn The Old Library, Art Craft and Heritage Centre as a community hub.
This year we are chairing and facilitating the Prestatyn Dementia Friendly Community agenda.
It is nice to be recognised as a voluntary group that has the best intentions and the wish to promote our town at every opportunity.
Nearly a year ago we had a visit from a very nice guy named Richard. who asked about the front area we have in the Old Library Art Craft and Heritage Centre and what we used it for.
He explained to us how he had come across an original 1890’s LNWR platform bench from Prestatyn station at The Crewe Heritage Railway Centre. He was trying to find a home for it if he could convince the heritage centre not to put it in to their next auction. We were very excited by Richard’s story and told him we were more than willing for the bench coming to us where we could give it a good home 🙂
Well to cut a long story short, after months of talks Richard negotiated a price and the purchase of the bench ! We hired a large transit van and Richard, Steve and myself took a road trip down to Crewe where we picked up the bench and bought it back to its home town of Prestatyn !
Health And Well Being
We are getting a lot more involved with local health and wellbeing initiatives. We have recently had high level meetings with Public Health Wales, Our Local Health Board and Social Services. Our work with Prestatyn Dementia Friendly Community is ongoing.
In the very near future we will be hosting and facilitating a workshop for all interested parties concerned with the proposed new Academy a key support component to the Healthy PRESTATYN Iach model.
In the words of Chris Stockport Medical Director – Central Area
BCUHB “An existing community interest company in Prestatyn has worked hard in the last year to provide a base for a number of ‘wellness’ services in the town. Their achievement has been impressive and they are well placed (and keen) to work with us in a co-productive way.
It is envisaged that they will act on behalf of the steering group to provide a level of coordination of available local ‘wellness’ services and also a geographical base for some. Their current base is immediately next to our future main surgery site (Ty Nant), so creating a health and wellness campus.”
Prestatyn Men’s Shed
We recently introduced Prestatyn Men’s Shed members to students at Llandrillo College in Rhyl, where they passed on some of their heritage skills and knowledge on to the students.
“We have had a fantastic week on Traineeships as part of our Intergenerational Project with Prestatyn Men’s Shed. We are so proud of all of you and a big thank you.
We dispelled the stereotypes and worked as a team, the story doesn’t end here……We cannot thank you all at the Artisans Collective CIC and Men’s shed Prestatyn enough. The young people had a great couple of days….more to come x”
Our community groups have also been working on a number of projects with Friends of Prestatyn Railway Station.
