Wellbeing – the key to flourishing
The starting point for this year’s report is the work of individuals working in four different settings across North Wales. Whilst varied in their approach and serving different population groups. They all illustrate the key factors we know to be crucial to individual wellbeing:
- Having a sense of control over one’s life and circumstances
- Being resilient and able to access resources to cope when necessary
- Feeling included and able to participate.
In this context, the term community can have several meanings. A community can be geographical, such as a neighbourhood, village or town.
It can be a community of identity (such as people who are lesbian, gay,
bisexual or transgender) or a community of faith, of culture or shared interest.
Community engagement is an approach used by organisations to enable members of the public to influence policy, service design and delivery so that it is relevant to community needs.
Services and programmes are more likely to have the desired impact if the community for whom they are intended have an opportunity to shape them, and if ideas and concerns have been listened to.
