We are working towards our home town of Prestatyn in North Wales becoming a Dementia Friendly Community. One of the first steps is to engage and encourage as many people as possible to become Friends. Therefore helping our local community members who are living with Dementia.

A Friend learns a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action – anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend. Whether you attend a face-to-face Dementia Friends Information Session or watch our online video’

It is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about Dementia Friends to visiting someone you know living with it, every action counts.

Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by Alzheimer’s Society.

Each Information Session lasts around one hour. You will learn more about dementia and how you can help to create dementia friendly communities.

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition. Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK.

The Friends scheme was launched to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding that means many people with the condition experience loneliness and social exclusion.

Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help.

Alzheimer’s Society received funding from the Department of Health and the Cabinet Office to launch and support Dementia Friends for the first two years. We are now exploring other possible sources of funding, including donations from Alzheimer’s Society supporters, to support Dementia Friends in the long term.

Artisans Collective are facilitating and chairing the steering group that was formed after the initial meeting with Dr James Davies MP for the Vale of Clwyd, with the full support of our town council.
